At a pro tennis match, Mike watched a player pour out water just to mix in a powder packet, spilling most of it before the next point was called. He noticed the process was harder than it needed to be.
Coach Quentin "Q" Eberhardt brought in the University of Tennessee sports nutrition staff to build a wish list of ingredients and performance priorities that they actually wanted. That feedback became one of the first real inputs to the VITAL1 formula.
Dr. Nieman had spent 40+ years researching how the body performs and recovers. He believed the sports drink category had not caught up with what the science supported. That conversation turned VITAL1 into a research-led formula.

Meet Mike Otworth,VITAL 1 Founder
Mike saw a gap in the market and had the background to do something about it. He ran a functional foods group and worked on a beverage project with Kraft Foods, which gave him a working understanding of functional ingredients, taste masking, stability and shelf life before VITAL1 ever had a formula. When it came time to choose a pack, he chose Areoflexx because usability, quality and environmental impact were all part of the standard he held for the product.
